Getting Started
Having your own set of wheels opens up a whole new world of personal freedom. But with literally hundreds of different vehicles to choose from, how do you choose the one that's right for you? In this section, we'll help you navigate around all the choices and hopefully lead you down the path to a decision.
Figuring Out What You Need... And What You Want
So what makes a good first car? There are essentially six areas to consider. Each area will be covered in more detail in the upcoming pages. Here are a few questions to get you started (our Choosing the Right Vehicle PDF can also help):
- Style & Space - What will you be using the car for? Commuting, family trips, weekend errands, sporting activities, business etc. What are your passenger and cargo needs?
- Performance - Do you enjoy driving and want a car that handles particularly well? Do you need more power or is fuel efficiency more important? Are you interested in a vehicle that offers both? Do you need to tow anything?
- Environmental Responsibiltiy - Are you interested in a greener vehicle? If so, which technology meets your needs?
- Safety - Is safety a priority? Will you be driving with small children? Are you concerned about theft?
- Options & Packages - Are you interested in luxury features? Do you want a sunroof? Or, leather seats?
- Budget - How much can you afford? What's the true cost of owning a vehicle?
